Walking, eating, drinking, and figuring out life in Japan one day at a time.

This morning, Boots and I hit a milestone that honestly sounds made up:

5,000 minutes walking together and over 300 kilometers covered.

Now, before anyone questions the math… don’t. Apple Health says it, so clearly it must be true. And if it’s not, I’m choosing to believe it anyway because it sounds impressive.

The Real Story Behind the Numbers

Those hours weren’t exactly heroic hikes through mountain ranges. Most of them were:

  • Early morning “why am I awake” walks
  • “Just a quick loop” that turned into 40 minutes
  • Boots deciding halfway through that this is now her walk
  • Me realizing I forgot something at home… again

And yet, step by step, it adds up.

The Corgi Factor

Let’s be honest, none of this happens without Boots.

Corgis don’t just walk. They patrol. They supervise. They judge your pace.

And somehow, despite having legs the size of a sandwich, they will outlast you.

Boots has been:

  • Motivator (whether I wanted one or not)
  • Walking partner
  • Occasional stubborn brick on a leash

Why It Actually Matters

Somewhere between all those walks, something kind of important happens:

  • You slow down a bit
  • You notice things you usually ignore
  • You get out of your own head
  • And yeah, you end up healthier without really trying

Not bad for something that started as “the dog needs a walk.”

What’s Next?

No big dramatic goals. No ultra-marathon nonsense.

Just more walks. More kilometers/miles. More time with a dog who thinks every single outing is the greatest event in history.

And honestly, that’s probably the best part of it.
